SCBA Emergencies (1/2 day)

This half-day course teaches students SCBA emergency skills. Topics include:

  • SCBA Familiarization
  • Developing a donning routine
  • Reduced-profile techniques
  • Entanglement emergencies
  • Equipment failures
  • Out-of-air situations

Firefighther Survival (1 day)

This one-day course teaches students the skills they need to manage their own fireground emergency. Learn and practice the individual survival skills that will keep you alive, topics include:

  • Managing YOUR Mayday
  • SCBA Emergencies
  • Disorientation Emergencies,
  • Emergency Escape Techniques

Firefighther Rescue (1 day)

This one-day, hands-on, course teaches students the skills and teamwork needed to perform both simple and advanced firefighter rescues. Firefighter rescue is physically demanding and exhausting work -- find out first-hand what it takes to perform these rescues. Topics include:

  • Searching for a firefighter
  • Assessing and packaging a downed firefighter (includes emergency air supply)
  • Drags, carries, and navigating stairs
  • Firefighter disentanglement
  • Rescue through breached openings
  • Rescue from collapse
  • Window rescues
  • Rescues from below
  • And more…

Pre-requisite: FDTN Firefighter Survival or equivalent


Rapid Intervention Team Development (1/2 day)

This half-day lecture helps departments prepare for fireground emergencies by understanding the need for, and beginning development of, a rapid intervention team. Topics include:

  • Standards and regulations regarding rapid intervention teams
  • RIT staffing
  • RIT tools
  • RIT training
  • The reality of RIT Ops on the fireground

Rapid Intervention Team Operations (1 day)

Building on our Firefighter Rescue course, RIT Ops defines the rapid intervention team and its duties both before and during an actual firefighter emergency on the fireground. Students cover all aspects of the RIT during this intense hands-on course, including:

  • RIT staffing
  • Member assignments and responsibilities
  • The role of the RIT Officer
  • RIT tools
  • Proactive fireground tasks
  • Responding to a fireground Mayday
  • Rescuing a downed firefighter
  • Command's role in firefighter emergencies and RIT Ops
  • Ongoing RIT training

Firefighter Rescue and RIT Ops (2-days)

One of our most popular courses, this course combines our Firefighter Rescue and Rapid Intervention Team Operations courses into an hands-on, action-packed and physically demanding, 2-day training session. Topics include:

  • Searching for a firefighter
  • Assessing and packaging a downed firefighter(includes emergency air supply)
  • Drags, carries, and navigating stairs
  • Firefighter disentanglement

  • Rescue from collapse

    Fireground Survival (3-days)

    This course, our most intense, combines our three firefighter safety and survival courses - and all of their components. The topics (individually listed above) include:

    • Firefighter Survival
    • Firefighter Rescue
    • Rapid Intervention Teams

  • Large Area Search (1 day)

    Large area search, also commonly referred to as Team Search, is a systematic search technique that uses a team concept and rope-based system to search large and/or complicate areas. This type of search technique is often implemented when conventional right- or left-handed search patterns cannot safely, or effectively, be used to search a given fireground area. This one-day hands-on course covers:

    • Recognizing the need for Large Area/Team Search
    • The Search Team (team positions and assignnments)
    • Equipment used to perform large area search operations
    • Performing the search

    Flashover Recognition (1 day)

    Recognizing the signs of flashover, and learning how to prevent yourself and your crew from being overrun by rapidly deteriorating fireground conditions, is something that should be taught to all firefighters from day one -- and reinforced constantly. This course allows students - under live fire conditions - to witness the signs associated with flashover. This is a must for all firefighters!


    Advanced Flashover and Survival Techniques for Deteriorating Fire Conditions

    This course builds on our introductory Flashover course and allows students to practice hose line survival techniques that should be used to prevent possible flashover situations. Retreating with a charged hose line is something that must be practiced. Learn and practice these techniques under realistic, live fire, conditions.
